  • Aging
  • Inherited from family
  • Malformation of inner structure
  • Exposure to louder external noise
  • Surgeries in ears or vestibular sensory systems
  • Head Trauma
  • Other diseases

Reasons are several, but there are many ways to overcome the issue. Hearing loss treatment in India is very effective and many medicals tourists visit here in search of solutions for this major issue. The specialists state that the type of treatment is dependent on the degree of hearing loss. However, solution is assured with hearing loss treatment in India.

Degree of Hearing Loss

ENT specialists diagnose the hearing loss range to find the severity of hearing loss and to determine suitable type of treatment. Degree of hearing loss is classified as Normal, Slight, Mild, Moderate, Moderately severe, Severe and Profound.

Hearing Loss Treatment in India

Cochlear and hearing implants are an effective way to treat hearing loss. In India, this procedure is performed by highly skilled specialists in one of the below methods:

  • Cochlear implants
  • Bone Anchored Hearing devices
  • Vibrant Sound-bridge middle ear implant
  • Auditory Brainstem implant

Cochlear implants

This device is capable of carrying out the functions of cochlea that is located in the inner part of an ear. Implanting this device for those you are suffering from hearing loss due to damages in cochlea, the implanted device facilitates sound signal transmission to the brain thereby improving hearing sense.

Cochlear implants would be effective for persons with moderate to profound hearing loss degrees. This device can be fixed in an ear, if single ear is suffering from hearing loss and to balance the sense or for both ears, if both the ears are with hearing loss.

Bone Anchored Hearing devices (BAHA)

This device is a stimulator for the functions of cochlea – the inner ear. BAHA is capable of sending sound waves to reach the inner ear and then to brain, bypassing the outer and middle ear parts. For this purpose, the device is implanted by making a small hole in the skull.

BAHA can be removed away without any further impairment of hearing sense, although one might think as it is not reversible when drilled and fixed. As it is a restructure of direct bone conduction, improved hearing ability is definite. Further, many patients when they come back for clinics say, that they do not have a feeling of wearing a device in the ear.

Vibrant Sound-bridge middle ear implant

This device is implanted in the middle ear to repeat the actions caused by sound waves passing through the ear canal, thereby increasing the sensitivity of the ear for sounds. While, cochlear implantis suggested for patients with severe – profound degree of hearing loss, this device will be adequate for those with mild – severe degree hearing loss.

Clinical studies in United States have proved that this device is a very effective solution for hearing loss and very convenient for usage together with daily routine. Although certain activities that give additional pressure to ear may have to be avoided, anyone can lead a normal life after few weeks of implantation surgery.

Auditory Brainstem implant

This is a device recommended for those with severe – profound degree of hearing loss, but for whom cochlear implant would not be effective due to absence of hearing nerve or cochlea. This device passes the sound waves directly to the brainstem hearing centre, thereby bypassing the function of cochlea. This is facilitated by its structure consisting of two parts: external processor with a microphone and internal receiver of sound waves.

This device is considered more suitable as a last resort option, where a patient approaches the specialist with near total hearing loss. Implanting this device connecting to the auditory brainstem is a complex neurosurgery. Doctors say, the outcome of the surgery is bit unpredictable, although it has been successful in many persons.

The ENT specialists are experienced well to diagnose issues and hearing loss treatment in India can assure you an effective solution.
